Florida storms are hard on electrical systems. A little preparation makes outages and surges far less stressful.
Before the season, check that your panel is in good shape, consider whole-home surge protection, and decide how you will power essentials if the grid goes down. If you plan to use a generator, have a transfer switch or interlock installed by a licensed electrician so you never back-feed the grid.
After a storm, do not touch downed lines or wet electrical equipment. If your panel or outlets got wet, have them inspected before restoring power.
